Yesterday my little guy was off sick from school. While going about my usual morning routines, keeping Jr entertained, and maintaining my work load, was proving quite the task.
Although I was attentive to my sons needs, when it came to Gabriel, taking action and completing something for himself; he may as well of had a bell to ring....*Cinderella anyone*
When faced with domesticated house work I realized my 8 year old may rely on me a little too much.
So I decided to enlist this capable cutie.
He was not the happiest camper to help at the beginning-
Prior to starting a chore I would provide proper instruction, and answer any of his questions, just by giving him that small amount of support, made the world of difference...instead of correcting him on something he was not familiar with, I chose to show him...and be patient...sometimes the perfectionist in me wanted to jump out and say, "let me do it!"
I made sure to provide adequate praise while he pursued his chores.
To his delight when he saw the vacuum canister full of dust and cat fur that he had collected, Gabriel felt he had achieved his little goal..
I also made sure not to go back and *fix* any of the streaks or misses.
By contributing to the house hold duties, and helping his mama out, while entertaining himself, this kid gets an A for effort.
So far this week we have been working towards domestic independence.
We have cooked together, vacuumed, cleaned litter boxes and washed floors.
I greatly encourage mama's out there to get your kids involved with the day to day, it was educational, and I dare say teetering on the fun side!
